Tajikistan – the land of diamond mountains and silver waters

The Republic of Tajikistan is not only the sunny country in the world, but also a country of high mountains, because 93% of its territory is made up of sky-high mountains. The Republic of Tajikistan is one of the countries that has occupied a prominent place in the region and the world in terms of tourism opportunities, including eco-tourism, health, mountaineering, recreation, etc. In recent years, mountaineering tourism has developed in Tajikistan and is considered a profitable industry.

Development of tourism in Tajikistan

The tourism industry, as a proven means of attracting domestic and foreign investment, creating new jobs, a source of income for the population and enriching the state budget, plays a significant role in economic and social development. In other words, in the context of globalization, tourism has gained a stable position and has become a favorite and constant activity of the planet’s inhabitants.
Taking into account these factors and in order to improve the socio-economic situation of the country’s regions, ensure productive employment of the population and increase the level of economic activity of the country’s residents, on the initiative of the President of the Republic Emomali Rahmon, 2018 was declared the “Year of Tourism and Development of Folk Crafts”, and 2019 – 2021 years were declared “Years of Rural Development, Tourism and Crafts,” which is evidence of the growing interest of the Government of the country in this area. tourism.

As you know, the Republic of Tajikistan with its high mountains has become famous in the world as a state with clean air, healing waters, lakes and rivers, clear springs and unique landscapes that attract the attention of tourists. Half of Tajikistan’s lands are at an altitude of more than 3,000 meters, where plants and animals can occasionally be found. The highest mountain in Tajikistan is Ismail Somoni Peak – 7495 meters (former Communism), which is the highest in Central Asia. The other end of the heavenly mountain is the peak of Abu Ali ibn Sina, whose height is 7134 meters. The peaks of Kornizhevsky with a height of 7105 meters and others are also known. The highest peaks of Central Asia are the Pamir Mountains, 800 km long and 5000-7000 meters above sea level. The Pamir region, also called the “Roof of the World,” has mostly barren mountains and rocks and slow-moving rivers. Perennial glaciers and snow are located on many of the peaks of these mountains and form the source of the Amu River.

By the way, in 2014, Forbes magazine included one of the most famous mountains and the highest peak of Central Asia – Ismail Somoni Peak in the list of 14 most unusual places in the states of the former Soviet Union, as well as the Top 100 Pamir Mountains in the list of the most interesting places in the world.

The highest points of the mountains of Tajikistan

As we have already said, the height of Ismail Somoni peak is 7495 meters, which is 1440 meters lower than Everest. It is also reported that three of the three mountains with a height of more than 7 thousand meters in the territory of the former USSR are located on the territory of Tajikistan.

It should be noted that mountaineering tourism is considered one of the priority areas for the development of tourism in Tajikistan, and the Committee for Tourism Development under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan is constantly taking the necessary measures to attract lovers of this type of tourism.

Market of tourism services in Tajikistan

Analyzes show that foreign tourists coming to Tajikistan are more interested in eco-tourism, mountaineering and hunting.

Currently, there are 246 travel companies, 191 hotels, 26 hostels (hotels) and motels (roadside hotels for drivers), 1 campsite (camp) and 5 tourist and recreational bases operating in the tourism market providing services to fans of mountaineering travel. .

Every year, in order to present the country’s tourism potential, the Committee participates in several international tourism exhibitions, including the International Tourism Exhibition “ITB Berlin-2023” in Berlin, Germany, the International Tourism Exhibition “MITT-2023” in Moscow, Russia, the International Tourism Exhibition “Arabian” Travel. Market 2023 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, participates in other international events and promotes and encourages the opportunities of mountaineering tourism.
