In the context of the rapid development of the global tourism industry, the search for new attractive and sustainable destinations has gained particular importance. One of the most promising areas is fishing tourism. Tajikistan, with its abundant water resources and unique natural environment, possesses significant potential for the development of this type of tourism.

Fishing tourism is a form of recreational and sport tourism in which travelers visit rivers, lakes, reservoirs, or seas for fishing purposes. Its objective is not only catching fish but also enjoying nature, appreciating scenic landscapes, and experiencing local culture. In modern fishing tourism, the primary value lies not merely in the catch itself but in the recreational process, respect for nature, and cultural experience.

Currently, favorable conditions have been created in the Republic of Tajikistan for the development of fishing tourism. Under the guidance and support of the Founder of Peace and National Unity — Leader of the Nation, His Excellency Emomali Rahmon, fish farming enterprises have been established in various regions of the country.

The economic and social significance of fishing tourism lies in the creation of new jobs in rural areas, the development of local infrastructure, increased income for local communities, attraction of domestic and international tourists, and the promotion of a healthy and environmentally friendly lifestyle.

The Republic of Tajikistan has substantial water resources that provide a solid foundation for fishing tourism. Mountain rivers such as the Vakhsh, Syr Darya, Varzob, Kofarnihon, and Panj are home to marinka, trout, carp, and other fish species.

These locations are suitable not only for fishing but also for integrated recreation, photography, camping, and eco-tourism.

In developed countries such as Norway, Canada, the United States, Finland, and Japan, fishing tourism has become an important sector of the tourism economy. Special attention is given to legal regulation, conservation of water resources, high-quality services, and international promotion. Studying and implementing this experience would be highly beneficial for Tajikistan.

According to research, more than 60 fish species inhabit the lakes and rivers of Tajikistan. Mountain rivers are home to marinka, trout, and other species. Currently, entrepreneurs are increasingly focusing on breeding silver carp, common carp, and grass carp.

The significant growth in fish production in recent years is primarily attributed to government support and the implementation of sectoral programs. Tax incentives granted to fish farms also play an important role in the sector’s development.

The development of fish farming, alongside recreational fishing, contributes to the growth of gastronomic tourism. Fish meat contains essential vitamins, and according to international recommendations, annual consumption should amount to 15–20 kilograms per person.

Fish produced in Tajikistan is highly valued on the international market for its quality. Expanding fish farming enterprises as tourism destinations also promotes the development of agro-tourism.

Despite existing opportunities, fishing tourism faces certain challenges, including insufficient modern infrastructure, inadequate service quality, and limited awareness in the international market.

To address these issues, it is necessary to develop strategic and targeted programs, attract investment, train qualified personnel, and actively promote this sector through digital platforms.

This year, the Committee for Tourism Development recommended that tourism companies establish specialized fishing tourism routes in order to expand and improve visitor services.

The recent increase in foreign tourist arrivals is primarily linked to security and stability, the availability of modern roads, and a favorable tourism infrastructure. Today, the global community views Tajikistan as an undiscovered gem. Ecotourism, cultural and historical tourism, health and wellness tourism, mountaineering, agricultural tourism, and hunting tourism are particularly popular. Tajikistan possesses unique opportunities for developing these sectors, unmatched in the region.

We are confident that fishing tourism can also become one of the key directions in the development of tourism in Tajikistan. Through the rational use of natural resources, implementation of international best practices, and effective cooperation between the state and the private sector, this field can significantly contribute to sustainable economic, social, and environmental development.
